My approach to photographing babies

Your baby is safely posed and styled in a way which looks natural and yet takes patience to achieve the perfect pose. My approach captures your baby’s purity, using simple blankets and optional tiny wraps or hats as accents. The focus remains entirely on your baby rather than distracting props and trends which will date in years to come. The result is beautiful and timeless photos.


As an experienced newborn photographer, I understand that less is often more when it comes to newborn photos. After all, babies are beautiful just as they are.

Your Newborn Photoshoot Experience

Choose a Mini or Bespoke Newborn Session

A Bespoke Newborn Photo Session lasts up to 3 hours and is recommended if you have your heart set on those sweet curled-up newborn photos. It also includes time for sibling and family shots. Whilst each session length varies based on your baby’s needs, the allocated time allows for feeding, soothing, and posing your baby without feeling rushed. These sessions follow your newborn’s lead, often resulting in a varied selection of sleepy and awake shots.

Travel is included across Nottingham, Derby and parts of Leicestershire. I am happy to travel further afield upon request which will incur additional travel and time costs.

A Mini Newborn Session lasts 1 hour and is ideal if you would just like a few photos to capture your baby whilst they are still tiny. Due to the time allocated, a mini session does not include parent and sibling photos. If your baby falls into a deep sleep, I will gently pose them into newborn positions. If your little one is unsettled or doesn’t nap, I focus on taking awake baby shots only. For mini sessions, travel is included within 10 miles of NG5 7NE.

Book a Date

If you are currently pregnant: You can make a provisional booking based on your baby’s due date. I make a note of your due date in my diary and if you are feeling up to visitors, we’ll arrange your session in the first 1-3 weeks. Making a provisional booking ensures availability around your due date as I only take a limited number of sessions each week in order to devote quality time to each family.

If your baby has already arrived: Please let me know your postcode and whether you would like a Bespoke or Mini Session so I can advise of the earliest available date. Whilst the ideal time for baby photography is around 2 weeks old, I take the same approach up to 5 weeks old.

Booking Information: I will send you an online booking form to complete and a £95 booking fee is required to secure your session with me. This is deducted from your collection price. For Bespoke Newborn Sessions outside of the Nottinghamshire/Derby/Leicestershire area, 50% of Collection 3 plus travelling expenses is payable at the time of booking.

About your Baby Photo Session at Home

Your photo session will take place at your home and I’ll send you some notes to prepare for your session to help create the right environment for your baby photos. A Mini Session lasts 1 hour and a Bespoke Newborn Session up to 3 hours.

Your baby will be comfortably and safely posed on a large newborn beanbag which I cover with a blanket to create a backdrop. I bring a selection of blankets for you to choose from, together with little wraps should you wish to use them. I also bring a portable studio light so there’s no need to worry about lighting.

After your session

Following your session, I professionally edit your photos with care so that you receive a strong, varied collection of baby photos to cherish this special time. As part of my baby photography service, I provide subtle retouching to enhance photos by removing temporary blemishes, scratches, jaundice tones and red blotches (which often appear on a new baby’s skin) while carefully preserving your baby’s natural beauty.

I present both colour and black and white versions of each photo where both versions complement the photo.

Viewing Your Photos

Your photos will be ready to view approximately 2 weeks following your session via an online gallery or at your home. All collections include digital images which are supplied as printable files so you can print and share them with your family. I also offer professionally framed prints which can be purchased as an additional product and have samples of these to show you should you wish to see them.

Ordering

Once you have chosen your collection, you will be invoiced for any balance remaining. Upon receipt of payment, the turnaround for photos is as follows:-

  • Digital images – download link sent within 48 hours
  • USB and Prints – up to 3 weeks.
  • Framed Prints – up to 5 weeks.

Fees for a Newborn Session at Home

Collection 1 (Mini Session)

£195

  • 1 hour photoshoot at your home Monday to Friday (Add £25 for a Saturday session).
  • (5) Digital Images (chosen from approx 15 photos).
  • Includes travel up to 10 miles from NG5 7NE.

Note: Session does not include sibling and family photos.

Payable as follows:-

£95 booking fee to secure your photo session which is deductible from the session fee. The remaining balance of £100 is payable on the day of the photo session.

Collection 2 Bespoke session

£395

  • up to 3 hour photo shoot at your Monday to Friday (Add £25 for a Saturday session).
  • (10) Digital Images on a USB and (10) Matching 7.5″ x 5″ prints (chosen from approx 25-35 images.)
  • Session includes family and sibling photos
  • Includes travel across the East Midlands.

Payable as follows:-

£95 booking fee to secure your photo session which is deductible from the session fee. The remaining balance is payable when you have viewed your photos and selected Collection 2 or 3.

Collection 3 Bespoke session

£495

  • 3 hour photo shoot at your home Monday to Friday (Add £25 for a Saturday session)
  • All Digital Images on a USB from your shoot (approx 25-35 images.)
  • (10) 7.5″ x 5″ prints
  • Session includes family and sibling photos
  • £50 credit towards bespoke sitter/family session (to be taken anytime up to your baby’s 1st birthday).
  • Includes travel across the East Midlands.

Payable as follows:-

£95 booking fee to secure your photo session which is deductible from the session fee. The remaining balance is payable when you have viewed your photos and selected Collection 2 or 3.

FAQs about Baby Photo Shoots

To ensure availability when your baby arrives, I recommend booking in advance. All bookings taken in advance of your baby arriving are provisional dates and a fixed date is arranged once your baby arrives. By having a date in my diary it ensures availability around your due date.

If your baby has already arrived, please give contact me via my website or call or WhatsApp me at 07977 49473 and I will let you know the earliest date available for your session. As newborn session bookings are often rescheduled, late availability often comes up and I will always do my best to fit families in sooner rather than later.

Newborn sessions take place in the comfort of your home.  There’s no need to worry about taking your baby out in the early days and remembering to pack the kitchen sink(!), I come to you to make it as easy as possible.

I live in Nottingham and travel to Derby, Grantham and areas of Leicestershire.   For areas outside of the East Midlands, travelling costs may apply.  Please let me know your post code at the time of enquiry.

A newborn baby photoshoot generally takes place within the first 2 weeks and often up to 5 weeks old although the sooner the better though for those lovely curled-up poses.   As babies get older they stay awake for longer periods and become stronger pushing themselves out of poses.   An experienced baby photographer will advise on photos achievable for older babies. It’s never too late for beautiful photos of your baby and, if your baby is older, please read ‘Is it too late for newborn photos where you can see photos of older babies.

A mini session lasts 1 hour and is if you would like photos of your baby only (no parent or sibling photos) and will be happy with awake or sleepy photos of your baby.

A bespoke mini session can last up to 3 hours and can include parent and sibling photos. The extra time allocated for a bespoke session allows plenty of time for feeding and settling your baby and is recommended if you have your heart set on sleepy curled up poses.

Yes, when you book a bespoke newborn session it includes parent and sibling photos and I take these photos with a lifestyle approach either sitting on your bed or sofa or in your baby’s nursery. Alternatively, these can be taken standing in front of a plain wall.

Please let me know in advance if you have siblings you would like to include in the session and their ages so that I can plan the flow of your session as best as possible.

A selection of blankets is available to choose from to create a backdrop for your baby to lay on. In addition, I have a few hats and simple wraps which you can use should you wish to.

As I want your photos to be all about your baby, I don’t use basket props, flower arrangements etc which may date in years to come. If you have something special you would like to incorporate in your session, however, I’m happy to include this. Please let me know beforehand so I can plan your session to include this.
